| Management is task. Management is discipline. But management is also people. Every achievement of management is the achievement of the manager. Every failure is failure of a manager. People manage rather than forces or facts. The vision, dedication and integrity of managers determine whether there is management or mismanagement. – Peter F. Drucker |
Business has been transformed to the greater extent over the last decade. It has been a driving force in shaping society and the catalyst behind extraordinary economic growth and opportunity. In a churning global marketplace, understanding the fundamental connections between business, the environment, and society has become essential to survive and sustain for any business. Effective management of business has spurred the creation of jobs, the generation of wealth, and access to opportunity for an increasingly diverse population. Management education has paved pathway in producing leaders capable of creating effective organizations that are the core of these profound, global achievements. The roles and responsibilities of business as a global force are becoming more urgent and complex, and concepts related to societal responsibility and sustainability are gaining recognition as essential elements in business management.
Increasing business complexity and interdependence in management require new approaches. They need support as they internalize and integrate these issues into the core of businesses, engage in dialogue with stakeholders, and report their conduct. Industries require talented and ethical leaders who can not only advance organizational goals and fulfill legal and fiduciary obligations to shareholders, but also are prepared to deal with the broader impact and potential of business as a positive global force in society.
Management institutions shapes the attitudes and behavior of the management students through business education, research, management development programs, training, and other pervasive, but less tangible, activities, such as the spread and advocacy of new values and ideas
Management Education has been so popular in India since the privatization of technical and higher education. At present there are 1,717 management institutions offering management course and 1, 41,322 students enrolled themselves for this course. It is very disappointing that the employability of these students and their skill set are not up to the expectations of the industries. The management institutions have to understand the real requirements of the industries and they need to improve the students skill set. The management students also need to understand the real industrial issues and find ways and means to solve the issues without distressing the stake holder’s interests. The new life style, changing communication system, commercialization of education system, ever dynamic technology, social expectations, globalization, are the challenges need to address the management students successfully today.
